Cranford Publications specializes in Celtic fiddle music from Cape Breton, Ireland and Scotland. Proprietor Paul Cranford is a fiddler and composer firmly rooted within the traditions of music he sells. This site, created by musicians for musicians, provides resources for a continuing tradition. We create and distribute books of music notation and related recordings; materials intened to help you learn or appreciate Irish and Scottish fiddletunes as interpreted by Cape Breton fiddlers. As you explore you will find links to thousands of tunes. Check out the pages featuring books and CDs and you will find links to hundreds of tunes which you can look at as on-screen musical notation. Other links allow you to listen to sound clips, & midi files, translate ABCs or find articles, photos and descriptions - most relating to books and CDs which are currently in stock. NEW FEATURE - MP3 of the month. A free, previously unreleased, downloadable solo fiddle MP3 to be posted each month, plus an online transcription. For July 2008 we have a duet by fiddlers Jerry Holland and Dougie MacDonald playing a new reel they composed together. Posted on the same page there is also a contest /fundraiser for Jerry who is fighting cancer.
Our newsletter has been delayed. Silver Apple News 11 will be mailed to current customers during fall 2008. Like past issues it will include articles and musical transcriptions which relate to featured books and recordings available from Cranford Publications. If you'd like to receive a FREE COPY email us your postal address (not necessary if you are a current customer). PDFs of back issues are also available. Our on-line store allows secure credit card purchases for all the books and recordings we feature. Fiddler-publisher Paul Cranford also keeps a 'day-job' as a lighthousekeeper. An ideal place to write, practice and maintain this website, his current posting is Machias Seal Island a bird sanctuary located on the Canadian-US border in the Bay of Fundy. During his months off. Paul lives on the Cabot Trail in rural Cape Breton.
