Legend has it that this popular traditional reel was composed by Dan R. MacDonald's grandfather. If true, it strongly influenced a later tune, Alexander MacDonald, a very similar reel (parts reversed) in Gordon MacQuarrie's, Cape Breton Collection. Recorded by the Five MacDonalds on their mid-60s lp, in 1977 Joe MacLean also recorded it on the newly released Old Time Scottish Fiddling of Cape Breton.
