Coleman 1925Michael Coleman was an improviser and as such it is very difficult to capture his music on the printed page. The setting above is a composite and doesn't attempt to accurately represent his nuances. I've written it as 4 parts due to current trends. Coleman however seems to have thought of it as 3 (the A and B parts being interchagable) He recorded a few of his tunes in different medleys using the same titles for different groupings. His key G setting of The Dublin Reel was recorded on two separate discs which were both titled Jackson's Reel(s). The 1925 medley paired it with another reel which is often called Jackson's # 1, the other later disc paired it with Tom Ward's Downfall. The 1925 sound clip comes from Milestone at the Garden, Irish Fiddle Masters from the 78 RPM Era, a CD compilation by Rounder Records.
