As a well-loved Irish session tune The Mountain Road is almost invariably is heard as a two part tune. Occationally you hear the third. The entire tune as originally composed given above. It was recently issued as part of a book-2 CD set titled Michael Gorman:The Sligo Champion.

Gorman had a penchant for putting variations on tunes. The above variations are remincent of the structure Michael Coleman used for another famous reel, Lord Gordon. This isn't surprising since the men were good friends, both were Sligo fiddlers of the same genertion.

Another well known multi-part tune associated with Gorman is a 6-part E minor jig, The Strayaway Child. He also added a third part to Cooley's Reel, a tune he called Put the Cake in the Dresser.
