I was born in British Columbia and grew up in a town called Williams Lake in the interior of the province. I learned many of my pottery skills from my mother Joan Beck who is also a potter. We had a lot of animals growing up and we lived in a rural area so I spent a lot of time out in the woods watching birds and other wildlife. Those early years of running wild helped to instill a great love of animals and the outdoors. I like to think my sense of humour also influences what I do. I enjoy making animals that are chubby, happy and a bit cartoon-like. I didn't make my buddy in that picture, but isn't he great? (That's me, on the left, just to be clear. My friend is Wiarton Willie, weather watcher of Wiarton, Ontario.)

After getting a degree in Archaeology and Sociology, going to acting school and teaching fiddle in Vancouver I came on holiday to Cape Breton Island in 2002. I met my future husband and decided to stay and set up shop here. I focus mostly on Raku pottery, but do a bit of functional handbuilt work as well. The shop is open from June to October (and year round online). I also have a used bookstore there, Wildfire Books, with 1000’s of titles! Playing the fiddle is my other main passion. I can’t imagine my life without it. Here’s a link to me on fiddle and piano, playing a tune I wrote called “Wildfire”.

You can visit my blog for more information about the making of my pottery as well as pictures of the process. Join my Facebook page and follow me on twitter for updates and web specials. Thanks for visiting my site!
