Most of the recordings in the listing below contain mixed Cape Breton-Scottish content. Music from the Simon Fraser Collection is all 18th and 19th century Gaelic-oriented Scottish music played by Cape Breton musicians. The Captain's Collection interprets Fraser's music from a Scottish perspective. On Stepping on the Bridge, Scottish piper Hamish Moore pays tribute to the Cape Breton style of piping. Puirta Baroque gives a provocative look at the roots of Scottish fiddling.

MHSB-cd Hamish Moore - Stepping On The Bridge (CD) $19.95

(CD) - Scottish piper Hamish Moore recorded this album in Cape Breton. The beautiful timbres heard from a wide variety of pipes made by Hamish himself are blended with the fiddle of Jerry Holland and the piano stylings of Hilda Chaisson. Vocal, Viola, Cello and sax were added on a few tracks later in a Scottish Studio.

Hamish has been attracted to the older styles of Cape Breton piping and especially its connnection to dance. On this CD the repertoire is mainly Scottish .. but played in a Cape Breton style.

CC-cd The Captain's Collection O/S $0.00
(CD) - The Captain's Collection is a new CD from Scotland, a tribute to Sinon Fraser of Knockie. Featuring Gaelic singing, piping and fiddling. The musicians "reunite the Gaelic words with the tunes, presenting the music in a range of styles in the hope that his [Fraser's] music can be played and enjoyed by others." For The Kilchatten Wedding they effectively arranged Fraser's fiddle setting, alongside a traditional pipe setting alternating between pipes and Puirt a Beul (vocals).
